Chris Tobe, CFA, CAIA, has worked in over 70 excessive fee cases in Defined Contribution 401(k), 457, and 403(b) plans in the last 10 years. In 2015 he published the book, “Consultant & Plan Sponsors Guide to Stable Value”, and is a national expert in this DC asset class.
In 2015 via Biller he did investment consulting for the UPS Pilots, UPS Mechanics AMC
With own firm Stable Value Consultants he did searches & projects for GM, Sonoco and made presentations to , SVC- Pfizer, BP, JnJ. In 2011 he did major projects for two national DC plans the Texa$aver program offered through the Texas Employee Retirement System, and the Maryland Teachers and State Employees Supplemental Retirement Plan (MSRP).
While at NEPC he worked on DB & DC plans for major utility companies DTE & CMS. From 2008-2009 at NEPC consulting he worked with Public DC plans at St. Louis Sewer District and Amtrack.
While at AEGON he worked directly with – GM, JnJ, Sonoco, IBM, Haliburton, HCA, and indirectly for hundreds of large companies on stable value wraps. While at AEGON 2001-2008 he was Director of Public Plan Stable Value and worked directly with the major DC plans in Montana, Pennsylvania, LA County, Cook County, Chicago, Ohio, Vermont, & Memphis.
He has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal and Barron’s on DC investments, and provided testimony and information to the DOL, SEC and GAO. He has spoken at a number of conferences such as IFEBP and NAGDCA, SEBC on DC Investment Products. He has written extensively on DC Investment topics, primarily on Stable Value and Target Date Funds.
He holds an MBA in Finance and Accounting from Indiana University Bloomington and a BA in Economics from Tulane. He has the taught the MBA investment course at the University of Louisville, and is the former President of the CFA Society of Louisville.
